I’ve been advising my clients to set up Google Alerts on their name and company name to keep an eye one what’s out there about them in Cyberspace.  I think the benefits of managing our online footprints go without saying.

My friend Kat Rice, of Verabatim e-Consultation and Design, wrote an excellent post about how companies are tracking your social media activities and selling data about social media demographics.  She takes you step-by-step through looking at what’s out there about you from a social media perspective.  I recommend that you take a look.

The temptation is to shred it.

I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t much appreciate my complete social security number printed on anything, and that green envelope that says “TO BE OPENED BY ADDRESSEE ONLY, UNDER PENALTY OF LAW”  might as well say “PLEASE…. STEAL THE IDENTITY INSIDE.”

I digress.

While the facts and figures on the statement are interesting to note, especially to those of us who are under 40 and probably don’t believe we’re going to see that money, the one thing you might want to consider doing is to compare what the SSA has with your W-2.

Mistakes are made.  It is easier to fix now while you still have the backup documentation.

Come to think of it, I am not likely to shred the statement after all.

Happy Thursday!

Next to being a co-author in a client’s amazing success story, the best thing about being a coach is the [self-imposed] requirement of being a lifelong learner.  Being innately curious and a lover of ideas and language seem to be common amongst the coaching creed.

I am so glad to share with you TED – Ideas Worth Spreading.  The creators of TED “believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we’re building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other.”

They have some of my faves:

  • Elizabeth Gilbert, author of “Eat, Pray, Love” talks about genius (love her!)
  • Majora Carter, activist and advocate for sustainable development and green renewal in Urban areas talks about “Greening the Ghetto”
  • President Bill Clinton, Founder of the WIlliam J. Clinton Foundation, talks about building a healthcare system in Rwanda.

Feed your brain some good food.  You are what you eat.  Pass the plate.
